Relation of the places of interest to Santa Cristina d'Aro

[·] Cova d'en Daina Dolmen. Megalithic sepulchre. Main road from Romanyà to Calonge.
[·] Menhir de la Murtra. Neolithic. Romanyà sector. Manuel Cazurro Ruiz, in 1912 published a review of this monument with a sketch of the standing stone, lying on its side at the time. The anthropomorphic granite standing stone was straightened in 1952, by a group of volunteers from Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Santa Cristina d’Aro, and by members of the Montclar Excursion Centre from Sant Feliu de Guíxols under orders from Lluís Esteva. It was possibly built around the year 3000 - 2500 BC.
[·] Sant Martí de Romanyà Church. Pre-Romanic construction which is highly evolved, with a steeple on the primitive Romanic tower, from the 10th century. The remains of the Catalan writer Mercè Rodoreda lie in the cemetery.
[·] Bell-lloc church. Romanic.
[·] Location of Font Picant
[·] Bousarenys workhouse dolmen. Chalcolithic. (Adjacent to the Roca de Malvet estate. Next to plot 92).
[·] Parish church of Santa Cristina d'Aro. Medieval temple, with two naves and a transept. The bell tower has a Romanic base except for the high part, finishing in a pinnacle. The door in the façade is from the 18th century and another covered side door is from the 12th century.
[·] Ruins of the Paleochristian Serrasol church. Located 300 m to the west of the parish church. It corresponds to the transition between the Roman-Christian basilicas and the first pre-Romanic temples.
[·] Former train stations in Santa Cristina d'Aro and Font Picant.
[·] Church of St Agnes (originating from 10th and 11th centuries), pulled down and re-built between 1773 and 1782. It is in neoclassic style, but the base of the former steeple remains. Next to it is the Solius Cistercian monastery (interesting to visit the crib scenes). Solius sector.
[·] Ruins of Solius Castle. Solius sector.
[·] Sa Tuna Cave and Neolithic Moors Cave. Solius sector. (A small cave cut out of the rock which is believed to have prehistoric origins and which was used as a shelter over time and seems to have been used as a crematorium a very long time ago. The water source for Solius castle is under the rock).
- Iberian village of Plana Basarda. Solius sector. Several excavations have found Iberian ceramic objects and also from Roman times which are now in the museums in Llagostera and Sant Feliu. Rounded holes can be seen which it seems were used to hold sticks to close off the village. Life in these settlements was very simple at the start.
[·] Puig Montclar and the Carcaixells. Solius sector.
[·] Creu d'en Barraquer standing stone. Neolithic. Solius sector.
[·] Can Llaurador standing stone. Solius sector.
